Dealer to dealer

Dead stock, discontinued lines, and shops winding down.

Dealer to dealer, documented properly on both sides. One transfer, one payment, and your shelf space is back.

What we take

Slow-moving new inventory, discontinued models, trade-ins that stalled, distributor closeouts you got stuck with, used racks, accessories, optics and ammunition. Happy to quote a whole shelf, or just the few pieces worth moving.

If you are retiring or surrendering the license

Worth starting early rather than late. We can take the whole inventory in one transaction and give you documentation that matches your records line for line, which is a great deal simpler than moving it piecemeal in the last two weeks.

Capital sitting in stock that has not moved in three years is capital doing nothing, in space that could hold something that turns.

What dead stock actually is, and why it is worth moving

Every shop has it. Guns that were ordered for a reason that has since evaporated, trade-ins taken to close a deal that then sat, distributor closeouts that looked good at the time, and models the maker replaced three generations ago that have been on the same peg since.

The problem is not that the inventory is worthless — it is that it is illiquid, it occupies shelf space that could hold something that turns, and its book value is usually a work of fiction by the time anybody looks properly. Capital tied up in stock that has not moved in three years is capital doing nothing.

How we price it

Line by line, against what the material is actually moving for now, rather than as a flat percentage of your cost. Your cost basis is your business, and it is not what determines what something is worth today.

Expect a realistic number rather than a flattering one. If a model has been discontinued and replaced twice over, it is worth what it is worth, and we will say so plainly. The price we quote is the price we pay.

Transfers between licensees

Dealer to dealer is the simplest transaction in this trade and there is no reason for it to be complicated. We take receipt against our license, both books reflect the same movement, and you get documentation matching your dispositions line for line.

Discretion between dealers

Nobody wants it known locally that they are clearing stock or closing, least of all before they have decided. Inquiries stay between us, we do not discuss what we have bought or where it came from, and nothing about a purchase identifies the shop it came from once it is on our shelves.

The whole shop, or the part of it you want gone

Current inventory, slow-moving stock, the shelf of parts, the used rack, the fixtures. Winding down piecemeal leaves you managing what is left over for weeks after you thought you were finished. One offer for all of it means the doors can close when you decide they close.

So: older models nobody stocks any more, optics two generations old, holsters for guns that are out of production, ammunition in calibers that stopped selling, the accessory wall, the parts drawer, the case of manuals, shelving and cabinets, and the safe. Quote the lot in one movement, or pick out the part you actually want gone — either works.

Timing, if you are closing

The mistake is leaving it until the lease is up. Inventory sold under a deadline is inventory sold badly, and time is the one thing that cannot be added back later.

Six to eight weeks is comfortable. It gives room to move the pieces worth selling individually, quote the rest as a block, and handle documentation without anybody rushing. If you are already inside that window, say so when you write; it changes what we would recommend rather than what we would pay.

What happens to your records

You get documentation matching your dispositions line for line, in the format your own records are kept in, so reconciling the two is a comparison rather than a reconstruction. We handle our side properly and keep our own. What we do not do is advise you on yours — for questions about winding down, your attorney is the right person and we will say so.

If you are not closing

Clearing dead stock is not only for shops that are closing. It is the annual problem of shelf space: capital sitting in stock that has not moved in three years, occupying room that could hold something that turns. Clearing it is not an admission of anything — it is the ordinary maintenance of a business, and the shops that do it regularly are the ones with room to take advantage when a good buy appears.
