How should we reach you?

Where we go in Minnesota

Minnesota is the furthest of the states we cover and we are straight about that: it is a long drive, and it is worth making for a substantial collection, a dealer inventory or an estate rather than for one or two guns. If that is what you have, distance is our problem and not a reason to rule yourself out.

Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Duluth, Rochester, Bloomington and Saint Cloud — and everywhere between. Where you are is our problem to solve rather than a reason to rule yourself out.

What collections in Minnesota look like

Minnesota collections are shaped by hunting country and by a strong tradition of buying quality and keeping it. Shotguns and rifles that have been used every season for decades and looked after properly are common, and so are estates where several generations of the same family hunted the same ground. Duluth and the north bring in more of the older material; the Twin Cities bring in more that was bought deliberately as a collection.

Estates in Minnesota

Minnesota estates tend to reward a proper look because so much of what is here was bought once and kept carefully. Houses in hunting country routinely hold rifles and shotguns that have been used every season for forty years and maintained the way that generation maintained things, which is a different proposition from neglected. The Twin Cities bring in more assembled collections, sometimes with real depth in a narrow area, and those are the ones where a single piece can be worth more than the rest combined.

Why get a number from out of state

There are fewer buyers willing to take an entire collection in one transaction the further you get from a metro, and that shows up in the offers people are given. If you have enough to make a trip worth it, it costs nothing to find out what the whole lot is worth before you start selling it piece by piece.

How a visit to Minnesota actually works

This is a planned trip rather than a short-notice one, and we would rather be honest about that than pretend otherwise. A rough count and a description by email or phone first, then a date that works. For anything substantial we would generally look to see everything in one visit, so tell us in advance if the collection sits in more than one place.

Questions we get from Minnesota

Is it really worth you coming this far?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no, and we will tell you honestly which. Send a rough description of what you have. If it is not worth the trip we will say so, and you are still welcome to the valuation.

How do I know it is worth your time before I write?

You do not have to know. That is our judgment to make and it costs you nothing to ask. Send a rough description and we will tell you plainly whether we are coming, and if we are not we will tell you what we would do instead.

Cash, consignment or trade credit

Three ways to be paid, priced side by side so you can see the difference before you commit to any of them — and you can split a collection across them. How the three compare.

What we buy

Whole collections rather than the good pieces out of them. Rifles, shotguns and handguns — modern, older, collectible or entirely ordinary — along with the ammunition, optics, safes and the accumulated boxes of parts that come with a lifetime of it. Dealer inventory and shops winding down as well.
